EQ Races: Barbarian

Origin and Homeland:

The Barbarians are a rugged and hardy race hailing from the frozen, untamed lands of Everfrost. Situated in the northwestern region of Antonica, Everfrost is a treacherous and inhospitable expanse of icy tundra, snow-capped mountains, and icy lakes. It is within this harsh environment that the Barbarians have carved out their existence.

Barbarian Culture:

The Barbarians are a deeply tribal and fiercely independent people, living in close-knit communities known as tribes or clans. They possess a strong sense of honor, loyalty, and respect for nature. Their way of life revolves around survival in the frozen wilderness, hunting game, and gathering resources to sustain their communities.

Physical Appearance:

Barbarians are renowned for their imposing stature and physical strength. They have a formidable and muscular build, capable of enduring the harshest of climates. They often have fair or ruddy skin tones, with hair ranging from dark brown to fiery red or blonde. Their eyes can be blue, green, or hazel, reflecting the vibrant colors of their homeland.

Connection to Nature:

Living in the untamed wilderness has fostered a deep bond between the Barbarians and nature. They revere and respect the land, viewing it as a provider of life and sustenance. Shamanism plays a crucial role in Barbarian society, with the shamans serving as spiritual leaders and intermediaries between the tribes and the spirits of nature.

Conflict with Giants:

The Barbarians have a long-standing conflict with the nearby giant population, particularly the Kromzek clan of giants residing in Kael Drakkel. The rivalry between the Barbarians and giants stems from territorial disputes, with both races vying for control over the frigid northern lands. This conflict has fueled a deep-seated animosity and frequent clashes between the two factions.

Relations with Other Races:

While primarily isolated within their tribal communities, Barbarians do maintain interactions with other races. They share a mutual respect with the Dwarves of Kaladim due to their similar rugged lifestyles and appreciation for the natural world. However, they often clash with the Teir’Dal (Dark Elves) and the Ogres, viewing them as threats to their homeland.

Notable Barbarians:

Several notable Barbarians have left their mark on the history of Norrath. One such figure is Dozekar, the Ice Dragon, who played a significant role in the ancient dragon wars and the struggle for control over Velious. Another prominent Barbarian is Torsten, the leader of the Coldain Dwarves, who united his people in the fight against the giants and played a crucial role in shaping the destiny of Velious.

Quest for Unity:

In recent years, the Barbarians have faced increasing threats from external forces, such as the encroachment of the Rallosian Empire and the ever-present danger of dragons. These challenges have prompted some Barbarian tribes to seek unity and alliances with other races, recognizing the need for strength in the face of adversity.
